When it comes to women’s tennis, No. 13 seed Amanda Anisimova is another American who is making news. She beat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-1, 7-6 (11-9), which put her in the semifinals. In Thursday’s semifinal match, Anisimova will play No. 1 seed Aryna Sabalenka on Center Court. In their quarterfinal match, Sabalenka came back to beat Laura Siegemund 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Are you the first American woman to win Wimbledon since Serena Williams’s last title there in 2016? That would be Anisimova’s goal. Sabalenka wants to win Wimbledon for the first time. She won the Australian Open in 2023 and 2024 and the US Open in 2024. Last month, Sabalenka lost to American Coco Gauff in the final of the French Open.
